Residents furious after revellers leave behind a ‘green carpet’
Ash Khan, organiser of the Winter Challenge, said there had been strict security at the stadium and no alcohol was permitted.

Residents in the vicinity of Oldacre and McKenzie Streets are up in arms this morning after they found that revellers had left behind hundreds of liquor bottles – many of which had been smashed.
“Many people were out in the streets openly drinking in public, playing loud music until the early hours. We called the police but the party went on,” said one resident who declined to be named.

Another said the Endumeni Winter Schools Sports Challenge at the nearby Kallies Stadium had been an event for children and no alcohol had been permitted.
“But adults had their own party here. Even some water meters were smashed in the frenzy. Dundee was again a free for all,” said a policeman who lives nearby who was off duty at the time.
One resident said he had to sweep away around ’30 bottles’ from his driveway before he could drive into his garage after arriving home from Newcastle in the early hours.
Ash Khan, organiser of the Winter Challenge, said there had been strict security at the stadium and no alcohol was permitted.
“We cannot police what happened outside on the streets. The police should have done that. We saw the litter this morning and moved in quickly to clean it up. We certainly do not want this to jeopardise our event which is aimed at the school kids. ”
Recyclers moved in early cleaning up the bottles.
