Courier readers extend a kind helping hand to Stephen whose grant was looted

The Courier has received several other complaints from SASSA grantees who have reported that their cards have been declined or have found that their grants have been stopped 'pending a review' of their application.

There has been an outpouring of support for Stephen Harris – the disabled man whose plight was highlighted by the Courier after thieves plundered his monthly grant from the South African Social Services Agency, SASSA.
Stephen, who cannot walk, relies on his sister to collect his monthly grant, However, he was left penniless when Charlene found she could not draw her brother’s grant on April 4 as his card was declined.
After querying the problem, Stephen was told that his grant had already been withdrawn by a person/s unknown. The matter has been take up with the Post Office and SASSA.
Meanwhile, Courier readers again showed their community spirit upon reading of Stephen’s conundrum. The Dundee Muslim Committee donated a food hamper while others have also stepped in to assist.
Charlene said the family was very thankful to all who have assisted during this ‘trying time’.
