A boon to those requiring transport to bigger centres for medical assistance

The Dundee Club has announced the arrival of a vehicle, an eight-seater Toyota Avanza, which will be of great service to the people of Endumeni

Patients struggling to access transport to specialist medical services outside of Dundee will be relieved to know that a vehicle, funded through the Rotarians, will help ease their transit woes.
The Dundee Club recently unveiled the vehicle, an eight-seater Toyota Avanza, to mark the culmination of three years of fundraising by the Rotarians.
“It was a letter we received in 2015 from a local medical practitioner that brought attention to the reality that many patients are faced with in the Dundee area. It is difficult to get to, say, Pietermaritzburg, Durban and other centres should they require specialist treatment,” said member, Bev Garner.
“Transport is irregular and the cost is also a factor. Many local businesses and individuals have over the past three years been generous in donations and through various fundraising activities such as the three-week Dundee Bowling Club Tournament.”

Tish Coleman, Rotary Club Chairperson, next to the vehicle that will help transport patients, requiring specialist medical treatment, to and from major centres.
Rotary is an international organisation, and as such, the bulk of the funds towards the project were obtained from Rotary Clubs in the UK and in the USA. Tish Coleman, Club Chairman, said the local Rotary club cannot express the gratitude felt towards all who have contributed in the past and will continue to assist with funds to ensure the vehicle remains in use as a free service.
“This vehicle will complement the existing medical transport facilities in our community and will be used at the singular discretion of the Rotary Club of Dundee.”
The Avanza this week transported its first patient – a lady requiring chemotherapy at Madadeni Hospital.
