Armed robbers storm Edgars at Theku Plaza

An off-duty operations team attached to Operation Fiela, managed to track the suspects to a house in Madadeni, Section 7.

On May 11, a group of armed robbers besieged Edgars at Theku Plaza (Etheku) in Madadeni.

According to reports, an undisclosed amount of cash, plus clothing and cellphones with an estimated value of R235 000, were stolen at gunpoint.

Cellphones stolen from Edgars (Theku/Etheku Plaza) were recovered by SAPS officials.

The armed robbery suspects the fled the scene with their loot.

“Members of Amajuba Cluster attached to Operation Fiela, who were off duty at the time of incident, went the extra mile. With the assistance of a tracking company, [they] managed to trace the suspects to house in Section 7, Madadeni.”

The Operation Fiela team consisted of Warrant Officer Matthew Rose, Constables Mncube, Mtshali, Kubheka, Ndlovu and Thwala, and one member from Newcastle Crime Intelligence.

“Members raided the home and successfully recovered the following items: one CZ 75 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, and two live 9mm [rounds]; cellphones and clothing.”

The suspects are still at large and investigations are underway.
