71-year-old donates blood for the 275th time
"I have made it my habit to always donate after 56 days"

Mr Peter Petzer (71) has been a blood donor since 1970 and is proud to have given 825 precious lives (three lives per unit of blood) a second chance at life.
In his 70s but still young at heart, Mr Petzer donated for the 275th time on Tuesday afternoon (May 14) at the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic, San Marco Centre. He also couldn’t resist praising his considerate son and daughter, who have followed suit and now also donate their life-saving blood.
“I have made it my habit to always donate after 56 days. It’s a healthy thing to do; you get free medical attention and if I haven’t donated, I feel that something is amiss. Giving back to the community is one of the most important things anyone can do and I am doing just that,” explained Mr Petzer.
With many medals for his donations, he encourages everyone out there to also get into the habit of donating blood, as it is cost-free and blood is always in high demand.
