Help abused children with the Courier

Items can be dropped off at the Courier offices on Beaconsfield Street and the closing date for donations is June 14.

To mark Child Protection Week this year, the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Courier will embark on a campaign to help care for abused children of our area.

Child Protection Week runs from May 28 to June 4 annually, to raise awareness of children’s rights in the country.

Under the Caxton Cares banner, the Courier will assist the Dundee Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, which is involved with policing sexual offences against children, person-directed crimes (where the family is involved), illegal removal of children under the age of 12 and electronic media facilitated crime.

Of particular concern for FCS is the prevalence of child pornography and sexual offences.

Having to deal with numerous cases on a weekly basis, the unit is often unable to provide proper support to each of the victims.

Residents, you can show your support by donating towards the Courier’s initiative.

You can help by donating towards or creating a Victim Comfort Pack: This pack includes soap, underwear, a toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary pads, towels, deodorant and lotion.
For babies: Nappies, blankets, hats, socks, powder, lotion, wipes.

Comfort packs can be placed into an old handbag, shoe box or shopping bag.

Donating towards or creating a Snack Pack: Often while waiting for interviews, children sit for hours without food or drink. Small packets of chips, juice, sweets and other snacks which won’t spoil, can be donated. Small teddy bears are also sought after, as these provide comfort and companionship for many little ones after their traumatic ordeal.

Items can be dropped off at the Courier offices on Beaconsfield Street. The closing date for donations is June 14 and the packs will be donated towards the FCS Unit afterwards.
