Local doctor meets Saray Khumalo, who climbed Mount Everest

He met her back in 2015 in Kathmandu, after an avalanche put paid to her attempt

Saray Khumalo from South Africa has become the first black African woman to reach the highest point in the world, Mount Everest.

Saray reached the summit during the early hours of last Thursday morning (May 16).

This was her fourth attempt to reach the highest point in the world.

Dr Magan from Ladysmith was fortunate enough to meet her during a previous attempt. He met her back in 2015 in Kathmandu, when she couldn’t reach the summit due to an avalanche.

At the time, Dr Magan was with the Gift of the Givers, who were assisting in the rescue of the climbers after the avalanche. Some mountaineers lost their lives.
