Estcourt couple celebrates their silver wedding anniversary

What started over a heart-shaped coffee table has blossomed into decades of love

32 years ago, it began with a heart-shaped coffee table that sent a subtle message between young Raj and Renilla Miserelall. They have now been married for 25 years and have two children.

The pair celebrates their silver wedding anniversary on May 29. Mr Miserelall fondly recalls the first time he met Renilla.

“My family had moved from Verulam because my dad had a new job here. The only accommodation we could find was in Rensburgdrift and Renilla was my neighbour. We were offloading furniture from a truck and the neighbours were helping, like they did during those times. While removing the furniture, I handed a heart-shaped coffee table to her and I said out aloud “I’m going to marry that girl”. Since that day, we became good friends,” said Mr Miserelall.

Raj and Renilla started dating seriously in 1990 and four years later, they were married.

“We always joke that we fell in love over that heart-shaped coffee table, which is still at my mother’s home,” added Mr Miserelall.
The couple’s two children, Salesh (24) and Suhina (18), are a testament to their love.

The Miserelalls celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this year.

When asked for advice for young married couples, Mr Miserelall said: “Trust each other and listen. Listening is the most important key in any relationship.”

Congratulations to the Miserelalls on your 25th wedding anniversary.

As an ode to his wife, Mr Miserelall wrote these words: “Because of you, I’m me. Without you, I’m lost. Thank you for our children and for being my best friend. Looking forward to the next 25 years. Be safe, my love.”
