Elderly woman unscathed after house fire

Emergency services responded promptly, and managed to extinguish the flames and contain the fire before it spread to other parts of the house.

An elderly woman escaped unharmed, after parts of her Drakensberg Drive home were engulfed by flames, just before midday today.

Newcastle Fire Services and local emergency services responded promptly, managing to extinguish the flames and contain the inferno, before it spread to other parts of the house. It is believed the fire started in one of the bedrooms, as that room sustained the most damage.

The elderly woman, who is believed to be the homeowner, said she had lived alone for a very long time and was thankful she was not hurt. The exact cause of the fire remains subject to official investigations.

The exterior of the house was damaged by flames.
