La Gratitude raises awareness for Alzheimer’s disease
“The support groups are held on the third Thursday of every month.”

In hopes of removing the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s Disease, the La Gratitude Home for the Aged is aiding sufferers through a support group.
The Alzheimer’s Workshop is held monthly, where members of the community, residents of the home, staff and trained professionals engage in various topics and activities regarding the progressive disease.
Alzheimer’s destroys memory and other important mental functions and not only affects elderly people. The fourth session was held recently and saw members from as far as oSizweni in attendance.
The workshop focused on training staff on the phases of Alzheimer’s, caring for patients with the disease and which facilities could accommodate these patients.
Mental health consultants and coordinators provided valuable information about Alzheimer’s.
Amelia Lubbe, a retired social worker and a consultant at La Gratitude, encouraged people to attend these workshops as a proactive and reactive approach to the disease.
“The support groups are held on the third Thursday of every month,” she said.
