Kings of the river manage to land massive catches

When he set the hook, he knew from the way the fish was fighting on the end of the line that it was a big one

A group of fishermen from Ladysmith are now being called the “Klip River kings” after landing monster-sized catches in the river.

Over the past few weeks, Lloyd, Jason and Asif Jugdawooh, along with Gugus and Antonio, have been fishing the Klip River, with outstanding success. Their best day out at the river was Easter Sunday, when massive fish were caught.

Speaking to Lloyd, he says that around 1pm, a few minutes after they got to their fishing spot and cast their lines into the water, the sound of an opening drag on the reel was heard echoing along the riverbanks.

When he set the hook, he knew from the way the fish was fighting on the end of the line that it was a big one. With the help of family and friends, Lloyd managed to successfully haul a “monster” into the landing net.

When the carp was weighed, the fish was found to be a massive 7.9kg. It was caught with floaties, which is Lloyd’s trusted bait choice. Jason can also boast with a “big one” weighing over 5kg on a recent fishing trip.

Lloyd says that all the fish they catch are released on video so they can live to fight another day. The anglers add that river fishing has picked up over the past few weeks, while dam fishing has slowed down as winter settles in.
