Tempting treats will tantalise your taste buds

Rubeena’s simple yet decadently delicious toppings includes cinnamon and sugar, banana and Nutella and strawberry and Nutella.

Sugar, spice and all things nice… that is what Rubeena’s crêpes are made of!

Although Rubeena Jadwat is primarily known as an optometrist, she has her fingers in many pies, or crêpes in this instance.

According to Rubeena, crêpe making started out as a hobby and soon turned into a fruitful business which she calls Oh Crêpe!

Even though she has had just two pop-up stalls at two different market days, Oh Crêpe has become a hit and had a sold out ‘show’ on both occasions.

Rubeena’s simple yet decadently delicious toppings includes cinnamon and sugar, banana and Nutella and strawberry and Nutella.

“It’s just something I enjoy doing,” she said.

What sets Oh Crêpe apart is the fact that she makes the crêpe batter from scratch and uses fresh fruits for the toppings.

“I started making crêpes for birthday parties and other functions and my family was like, ‘you should start a business with this’.

That’s where the idea came from,” she added.

Equipped with crêpe pans, a hot plate and enough batter to feed an army, Oh Crêpe will be one of the vendors to look forward to at the Newcastle Farmer’s Market, which takes place on June 29 at The Pines Wedding and Conference Village.

If the smell of cinnamon and sugar on warm crêpes tantalises your taste buds, then don’t forget to diarise the date and get it at the Newcastle Farmers Market while it’s hot.

The Newcastle Farmers Market has already created over 35 business opportunities for local entrepreneurs, and intends to create more entrepreneurship opportunities by the end of 2019.

“By December, we hope to have at least 10 more stalls and suppliers, created specifically for the Newcastle Farmers Market,” said organiser, Zuliana Harris.

“We’re looking for vendors for things like locally produced almond milk (yes this can be made at home) as well as locals who can commit to growing certain vegetables, fruits and herbs in their yards! We’re also looking for people who can perfect a single item and do variations of it. Quality over quantity,” she added.
