Youth Day Parliament opens in Dundee

The Youthful Parliament sitting is going ahead despite an attempt to sabotage the event by burning down a sub station

The KZN Youth Parliament has opened in Sibongile in a huge marquee in the sports stadium. Various MECs are present and Premier Zikalala is expected tomorrow.

The Youthful Parliamentarians representing the political parties of the KZN Legislature will be debating various facing the youth of the Province over the next few days.

The sitting went ahead despite the sabotaging early this morning of the Sibongile sub station that has knocked out the paper in the area. A burning tyre was thrown into the sub station on Cornhill Street at the entrance to the township.

It was said this was to protest the giving of tenders to outside companies to service the Youth Parliament. The Municipality said power is likely to be out in the Sibongile area for the next three weeks. Generators were in any case set up at the stadium so the power outage is having no direct affect on the event.

There is a strong police presence around the Stadium.
