Vandals leave Dundee Junior Secondary School in wrack and ruin

A year after Government promised the facility would be renovated, the buildings are in a state of ruin.

Vandals and vagrants are systematically demolishing Dundee Junior Secondary School. A year after Government promised the school would be renovated, and learners were moved to Forestdale, the buildings are in a state of ruin.

There is no security at the abandoned school and vagrants have moved in. The fence has been cut, the roofing removed, the floorboards ripped up, piping smashed and electrical cable ripped out.

It was a parent protest against the condition of the school, which eventually prompted the Department of Education to move the learners elsewhere. According to Sipho Kheswa of the Umzinyathi Education Office), the Department of Public Works promised to have a contractor on site by December. It is now June, with no progress made.

The Department of Education was contacted for response, but none was received at the time of going to print. The Department of Public Works has also not responded to inquiries from the media.
