Mayor condemns brutal shooting

The family members of both Sibeko and Mbatha were visibly grief-stricken throughout the memorial service, while the owner of Khazins Shisa Nyama, Mluleki Cebekhulu, said he was still conflicted by the killing.

The community of Madadeni is still reeling after the fatal shooting of two security personnel who worked at the local Khazins Shisa Nyama, in Section 6.

This was evident at the memorial service of 22-year-old Lindani Sibeko and 30-year-old Sabelo Mbatha, which was held at the shisa nyama’s parking lot in Madadeni on Saturday, June 22.

The two security personnel were shot and killed by alleged suspect, Khethani Richard Shange, who is now facing murder and attempted murder charges.

Amajuba District Mayor, Dr Musa Ngubane, said he was shocked by this senseless killing.

“I am deeply saddened by these acts by the alleged suspect, because we worked together in the district committee. It’s even more painful to realise the fact there are such monsters at our workplaces. We pass our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their beloved children. The community did a great thing by chasing and catching the alleged suspect, even when he was shooting. As government, we will not rest until the culprit receives life imprisonment.”

The family members of both Sibeko and Mbatha were visibly grief-stricken throughout the memorial service, while the owner of Khazins Shisa Nyama, Mluleki Cebekhulu, said he was still conflicted by the killing.

“I am shattered by this shooting and killing of my employees. They were attacked this gruesomely, and by someone who my employees have stated they had nothing to do with. This person is turning 50, which means he killed his own children.”

The alleged suspect, Shange is currently detained at the Waterval Prison, and is due to make his second court appearance for the bail application, at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on July 1.

Sabelo Mbatha is survived by his brother, his three sisters and his daughter, while Lindani Sibeko is survived by his brother and sister.

Mbatha was laid to rest at Cavan Cemetery in Blaauwbosch, while Sibeko was laid to rest at the Section 42 Cemetery in oSizweni.

The Newcastle Advertiser extends its sympathies to both families at this very difficult time.
