Couple killed in collision on N3 near Hidcote

The N3 is partially obstructed and traffic is moving slow, be vigilant

A husband and wife sadly succumbed to the injuries they sustained during a collision on the N3 near Hidcote  this morning.
At about 6.45am emergency services arrived on scene where a double cab bakkie and a truck had collided, the exact cause of the crash is unknown at this stage.

According to Cait Hagerman from KwaZulu Private Ambulance, who is on scene, the husband and wife, believed to be in their 50’s were killed after their were entrapped in the bakkie.

“With the help of the fire department, we used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver and grandson from the vehicle and they were taken to a private hospital in Pietermaritzburg,” said Ms Hagerman.

Five minor were treated for minor injuries on scene and transported to Estcourt Hospital where they are in a stable condition.

The N3 is partially obstructed and traffic is moving slowly while a police forensics teams is awaited.
