Fire guts old Spar building
The fire is believed to have started in a back room of the building, and spread throughout the structure.
The old Amajuba Park Spar on Renoster Avenue was engulfed by flames this morning. Firefighters from Newcastle Community Safety were at the scene, and have since extinguished the blaze.
Community Safety’s Elaine Noorman explained: “The building was vacant and there’s a small room at the back where the fire started. We don’t know the cause of the fire yet but investigations are underway.”
