uThukela District Chief Whip Cllr S Dlungwane, accompanied by Ward Cllr Khulu and a team of officials, visited the Ntshele area in Ward 31 recently to address the community on water-related issues.
According to uThukela, these meetings are aimed at providing solutions to water challenges in the district, since communities are concerned about water shortages in the area.
uThukela District Municipality is responsible for three local municipalities, which consist of 74 wards in total. “As a result, the district must ensure that all communities have access to potable water. This is the mandate given to us as the municipality to supply clean water to the people,” said Cllr Dlungwane.

He further stated that in Ward 31, the community reported four broken and neglected hand pipes and that they will be fixed. There are also plans in place to drill and fix more boreholes to enable the community to have access to water. Cllr Zulu committed to dispatch water tankers while repairs to the boreholes continues.
The team then headed to the Nkomane area to tackle water issues affecting this community. Addressing the community, Cllr Dlungwane said he was there to engage with them on issues relating to water, sanitation, disaster management and economic development. Cllr Dlungwane made a commitment that all broken boreholes that have been reported will be fixed soon.
