There was great relief when local businessman Shane Mothilal noticed that a two-year-old leaking sewer in Philips Street had been fixed, but then… Last Thursday, the ‘fixed’ sewer leak started up all
over again.
An annoyed Mr Mothilal said the situation was back to square one.
“I give up! It seems like they did a temporary job; they did not resolve the issue permanently. Surface work was done,” he added.

The sewage streams from behind Jackies Butchery all the way down into business property in Albert Street. Mr Mothilal’s main concern is the unhygienic environment this creates. The reeking spillage continues to plague businesses and customers.
No answers have been forthcoming from uThukela District Municipality. The Estcourt News sent an email on June 4 and another on June 27, which still have not been responded to almost a month after the first email was
sent.
In the interim, Mr Mothilal is trying to report the issue directly to uThukela.
