Two men were arrested, after an armed gang robbed the Banana Supermarket in Mbabane, Dannhauser on July 17. The men, aged 24 and 30, were part of a group that gained access to the store after midnight, by breaking through the wall with a hammer.
Staff members, who were sleeping on the property, attempted to hide themselves in the bathroom. However, two members of the robbery gang followed them and threatened to shoot them, while another man kept guard outside the store. The men fled the scene with R10 000 in cash, airtime, cellphones and cigarettes from the storeroom.
The following morning, a joint operation between Newcastle Crime Intelligence and the Amajuba Trio Task Team led to the arrest of the two men in the Allen Farm area, where they were attempting to sell the stolen property. Police recovered cigarettes, airtime, cellphones and some of the cash.
The men appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court on Monday (July 22).
