SAPS swoop in on illegal shebeens

These establishments are believed to be contributing to the rise in crime.

Two illegal shebeens were closed down in Paulpietersburg, during a joint operation between local police and the Firearms Liquor and Second Hand Goods Control (FLASH) Unit recently.

The operation was aimed at closing down illegal establishments, given their ‘substantial contribution’ to crime and nuisance in the area.
“A licensed bottle store owner was charged for in-consumption and failing to close at a prescribed time,” said SAPS spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
