Nquthu ‘back to normal’ after furious protests

Protesters have given municipal officials two weeks to provide steps on how service delivery issues will be resolved.

The situation in Nquthu is calm this morning.

This follows two days of unrest which saw tyres set alight, cars stoned and at least two policemen and a protester injured. SAPS reported earlier today the Dundee/Nquthu road was clear, although there still may be debris on the road past the Buffalo River crossing.

Earlier in the week, protesters handed over a memorandum over to the municipality, listing their complaints regarding service delivery issues such as water shortages and the poor condition of roads in Nquthu.

Officials have since promised to consider the complaints. Protesters have granted the municipality a two-week grace period, for steps to be taken towards resolving these problems.
