No arrests in Mthembeni Majola’s murder

Mthembeni Majola, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) proportional representation councillor, was killed in a hail of bullets on Friday night (August 16.)

The 39-year-old councillor was traveling along the R103 near the Estcourt Provincial Hospital when he was gunned down.

“It is alleged yesterday at 8.50pm, he was driving his vehicle on the R103 at Hospital Hill with two occupants when unknown suspects opened fire on the vehicle,” explained police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.

She confirmed that charges of murder and attempted murder are being investigated by Estcourt police. Mr Majola sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on the scene.

The two passengers who sustained injuries during the shooting were rushed to the Estcourt Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.

The motive for the attack is unknown and yet to be established as investigations are on-going.
