Dump-dee or Dundee?
Keeping the environment clean is everyone's business ...

Littering and indiscriminate dumping has reached crisis proportions in Dundee.
The ‘greening’ of Coronation and McPhail Parks is a weekly occurrence as party-goers leave behind evidence of their weekend ‘jols’.
Signs urging residents not to dump have either been stolen or are simply disregarded. The Courier is to next month highlight this problem in a feature which will also seek to find solutions.
Partnering with the Endumeni Municipality, the Courier hopes to include a Tree Planting Drive through the Caxton Cares initiative.
Businesses, schools, and individuals are urged to come on board, so please watch the Courier for details.
FC Bester, chairman of the Endumeni Residents’ Association, says Dundee would do well to learn from small towns like Komati Poort in Mpumalanga, which he says, is ‘spotless’.
“There are always teams of municipal workers out cleaning the streets. The street vendors also have a designated place in town from where they can sell their goods and everything is kept neat. It is an eye-opener and Dundee should implement this same disciplined-approach.”
Naresh Gopie of Tourism Dundee said environmental care goes hand-in-hand with pride in one’s town. “Tourists to this town bring in money. We need to all be mindful of that. Let’s keep our town clean not only for the tourists but for the sake of all residents too.”
What is your opinion on how we can help clean up Endumeni?
