Million rand dagga haul seized near Wembezi

Suspicions of police officers patrolling along the N3 near the Wembezi turn-off was piqued last night (September 2) and it proved to be correct.

The officers spotted a vehicle on the road and pulled it over. They informed the five occupants that they would be conducting a search of the vehicle.

The dagga has a street value of R1 million.

“On inspection, police discovered 56 large parcels of compacted dagga, weighing 100 kilograms, in the vehicle. The drugs seized has an estimated street value of R1 million,” said police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

When questioned about the ownership of the vehicle, the occupants failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and police seized the vehicle.

Police also confiscated cash from the suspects.

“The arrested suspects, aged between 19 and 29, were charged for possession of dagga. They were also found in possession of R27,000,00 in South African currency as well as 5000 in eSwatini currency. The five men will be appearing at the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of drugs and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle,” added Colonel Mbele.
