Residents’ Association needs help restoring Dundee’s glory
"There is no need for Council to make use of out of town consultants, who cost a great deal more."
Instead of just criticism from the sidelines, residents and business owners should join hands with the municipality to restore Endumeni to its former glory.
This is the view of FC Bester, the outspoken chairman of the Endumeni Residents’ Association (ERA). He has had several one-on-one discussions with senior Councillors, who are in agreement the town needs some serious ‘TLC’.
Referring to the polluting of the Balgray and Steenkoolspruit Rivers earlier this year, below the sewage works on the Ngisane road, Mr Bester said it was frightening and although no answers had been forthcoming, he would continue to seek them. At the time, farmers in the area reported having to thoroughly treat the water, before it could be used on land and for cattle.
Mr Bester welcomed the Caxton Cares initiative, which is a Courier project in conjunction with the Endumeni Municipality, to encourage businesses and individuals to plant trees during Arbor Month – September. He said this is where the ERA wanted local experts and business people to come on board to assist the municipality.
“We have many talented local people. We have landscape designers to assist beautifying the Municipal Gardens; we have town planners and engineers to help. There is no need for Council to make use of out of town consultants, who cost a great deal more.”
