Lives lost in deadly ambushes in Ladysmith

4 people have recently lost their lives in merciless shootings

Three people died in what has been described as a Wild West style shooting on Tuesday night (September 3) in Ezakheni B-Section. Gunshots were heard by nearby residents as the killers shot at a taxi carrying passengers.

A Toyota Hilux was travelling from Colenso to Ezakheni, with five passengers on board. It is alleged that, at the corner of Isinkwe and Rholihlahla Road at the speed humps, unknown occupants in a BMW followed the taxi and opened fire on the vehicle with rifles.

The rifles used were R5s and AK-47s. Empty cartridges were found at the scene. The 47-year-old driver and two passengers were killed. Two terrified passengers managed to get out of the vehicle and run away. They were later taken to hospital by paramedics who arrived at the scene.

Police, forensic staff and other emergency officials were also on scene. All three deceased suffered multiple gunshot wounds. No arrests have been made and the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. However, the shooting is suspected to be taxi-related.

In another recent incident, a man was killed in a shooting in the Besters area. His vehicle was riddled with bullets. Emergency authorities were on scene. The man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died in hospital. The motive for this shooting is also unknown at this stage.
