Deceptive direction signboard displayed on the R74

This signboard provides inaccurate information to road-users

A direction signboard drew the attention of a local resident last week.  Situated at the Rensburgdrift turn-off on the R74, it states that Estcourt Hospital is 11km away.

“This is surely incorrect,” remarked a resident who contacted the Estcourt News.

A drive from the signboard through Albert and Connor streets, past Drummond Road, into Lorne Street and to Estcourt Hospital totals a distance of just under 6km.

“This information needs to be corrected, as it is misleading to the public. There is no other Estcourt Hospital in this vicinity. Where is the ‘gate clinic’ being referred to? It could refer to a facility within the hospital,” added the resident.

The Estcourt News has conveyed these concerns to the Transport Department that is responsible for this route, as well as the local municipality.

Further questions about who approves the placement and erection of signboards were posed.  No response was received at the time of this post .
