10-year-old girl shot and robbed in Wembezi

Three suspects were arrested hours after the incident

A collective sigh of relief is rippling through the Wembezi community after three suspects were arrested following a robbery and shooting last night (September 19).

Police report that a 10-year-old girl was returning from a shop at about 7.45pm when she was attacked by the suspects.

“The victim was shot and wounded on her right arm. She was robbed of her cellphone and the suspects fled the scene after the incident,” explained police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.

The injured girl was taken to a nearby health care facility.

“A case of attempted murder and robbery was opened at the Wembezi Police Station. Police officers were mobilised and launched an investigation, which resulted in the swift arrest of the suspects,” said Captain Gwala.

The three suspects, aged between 17 and 19, are due to appear at the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing attempted murder and robbery charges.
