Beware of scams in Ladysmith

Strangers wanting to help you at ATMs are not eager to assist you; they are there to rob you

Police would like Ladysmith residents to know that there are numerous scams operating in town at the moment.

Firstly, avoid being assisted by unknown people at ATMs. These people are not eager to help you, but are there to steal from you, say police.

Furthermore, be wary of people who come to your house to supposedly check your electricity or water meter. They may not be what they seem and instead be criminals scoping out your home and wanting to rob you.

In addition, be warned about messages coming through on your cell-phone where you are requested to deposit money into an account because you have supposedly won some competition. These con-artists will disappear with your money.

In the same vein, do not deposit any money after being offered employment at Correctional Services. Correctional Services will never ask any amount of money from people applying for a job in their department.
