READ THE INITIAL STORY HERE: JUST IN: Councillor escapes armed ambush while travelling to council meeting
This is according to his colleague Romeo Andile who spoke to the Estcourt News just hours after Mr Nthekiso was allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen this morning (October 2).
The proportional representation (PR) councillor from the Al Jama-ah Party, who was sworn into council on August 29, was confronted by unknown gunmen while on his way to the Special Council Meeting in Wembezi.
Mr Andile, who is currently with the ‘very shaken’ PR Councillor in Durban where he is receiving counselling, said the pair was driving in a VW Polo at about 9.30am when the shooting took place.
“A big car, I think it was a Range Rover, drove past us and suddenly shots were fired at us. We drove to a garage in Wembezi and then we ran away, for our protection, to Durban,” said Mr Andile.
Four shots were fired at the vehicle the councillor was travelling in. Both men escaped without any injuries.
Cllr Nthekiso is currently unavailable to speak to the media.
