[VIDEO] Couple left traumatised after attack in parking lot

Mrs Ramcharan sustained injuries to her head and limbs and was treated for mild cardiac arrest

Ramdeen (64) and Premilla (62) Ramcharan are still reeling with shock and pricking with uneasiness after they were victims of a foiled bag snatching in a shopping center parking lot on October 11 after 6pm.

The couple were offloading groceries into the boot of their car when a man approached them from the back and grabbed on Mrs Ramcharan’s handbag, which was slung over her shoulder

“I felt my bag being pulled, I screamed for my husband and I was on the floor,” said a soft-spoken Mrs Ramcharan.

In an attempt to fight off the attacker, Mr Ramcharan grabbed an energy drink bottle from his groceries and went at the man.

The man escaped into the darkness, leaving behind the handbag and the couple severely traumatised.

Mrs Ramcharan was rushed to Hilton Life Hospital where the doctor warned that she had gone into mild cardiac arrest.

After being stabilised, she was discharged hours later.

Sitting at the kitchen table a week later, Mr Ramcharan says the violent attack on his wife is a ‘disaster’.

“We feel so bad. What if the man had a weapon and hurt or killed one of us? This was a vicious and violent attack,” he said.

Mr Ramcharan, who shared the video footage he obtained from CCTV footage supplied by a security company, says he wants people to be vigilant when carrying cash, bags and valuables.

A second attack on a woman was also reported yesterday (October 17).
