SAPS brings the hammer down on crime suspects

Three men were taken into custody after a shootout with police in Paulpietersburg.
Police officials received information regarding four men travelling on the main road, who were allegedly involved in a robbery in Mpumalanga. Paulpietersburg SAPS attempted to stop the vehicle and the men opened fire. Police officials returned fire and fatally wounded one of the suspects, before arresting the other three and recovering two firearms. The three suspects will appear in court soon. They have been charged with attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and SAPS continues its investigations. KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi praised Paulpietersburg SAPS for conducting its duties while under attack. “We will continue to fight crime and put criminals behind bars,” he concluded.
In another incident on November 13, reported Zululand Cluster Spokesperson, Captain Nkocy Gwala, an alleged syndicate comprising of seven Ugandans was arrested in Vryheid.
SAPS traced a cell phone, which led to the arrests being made. Police officials discovered large amounts of money in the suspects’ possession, including forged notes worth R167 700, cell phones, laptops, two new cars (registered outside South Africa) and bank cards.
The seven suspects are in police custody, while other police stations check for linked cases.

A number of allegedly stolen items are recovered from the suspects’ possession.
These two new vehicles, registered outside South Africa, are believed to have been stolen.
