Help Khazozo realise his Idols South Africa dream

"Performing at Idols will enable me to showcase my talent and gain exposure."

Cebolenkosi Makhaza’s refuses to allow blindness to stand in the way of his dreams.

Makhaza, also known as ‘Khazozo’, believes his path to performing on the national stage of Idols SA is just within his reach. At just two years old, Khazozo lost his ability to see. However, his light of hope and refuge became music.

“I have competed in rallies with approximately 5 000 people in attendance. I have no fear playing in front of a crowd. The fact that I cannot see makes it easier,” he quipped.

Khazozo’s resilience and perseverance against all odds has taken him from a small town musician to an Afro-soul vocalist and guitarist, who believes in his potential to win Idols SA 2020. He will head through to Durban on February 22, where the premiere auditions will take place. He will compete against thousands of singers.

“I am confident I will make it through to the second audition. Performing at Idols will enable me to showcase my talent and gain exposure,” he said.

If Khazozo qualifies to perform at the second auditions, he will need assistance with transport and accommodation costs for the week, to realise his dream of performing on national television.

Khazozo wishes to perform on the national stage of Idols SA 2020.

In preparation for his big day, Khazozo said he practiced three days a week and searched for ‘well composed’ music which connected with him on an emotional level. The song he has chosen to perform at the first audition is Ibhanoyi by Blaq Diamond; a heartfelt and nationally recognised love song.

Khazozo’s friend and assistant, Bright Nkosi encouraged him to enter Idols SA and will be accompanying him to the auditions. His long term goal is to create a foundation to assist other local artists to record their music.

“Being chosen to compete in the final rounds will mean a lot to me, not only for my personal success but to empower other disabled people and change the mindsets of society,” he concluded.
