Gunshots fired as wild car chase ensues

Numerous shots were fired around town as security officials chased a group of wanted men.

Gunshots pierced the air, disrupting an otherwise quiet Valentine’s Day, as police and security officials chased suspected bank card thieves in the Dundee CBD.

The suspects are believed to have fled from the Pick ‘n Pay Centre where they stole a bank card, leading police and security on a chase through central Dundee. It is understood the gang was driving in an Etios.

It was alleged by those at the centre however that the thieves had stolen a car in which the owner’s bank card had been left. This could not be immediately verified by Qomfoka Security officials, who were on scene and gave chase to the silver vehicle.

Motorists who spoke to the Courier talked of a ‘wild’ car chase which passed Standard Bank and on to Excelsior Lane.

Five gunshots were fired near Dundee Junior School, as the men tried to avoid a chasing Sipho Ngcobo from Qomkufa Security. The men then fled up Anne Street, where more gunshots were fired.

While details are still sketchy, it is believed two men have been arrested.  A police investigation is underway.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
