Residents living in different areas of Ladysmith are frustrated after having to endure continuous water cuts. Those receiving water from the Ezakheni Plant are faced with daily interruptions. In some areas, water gets cut off at night and is only back late the following day.
uThukela spokesperson Jabulani Mkhonza has commented on the matter by saying, “The municipality acknowledges the fact that many areas in Acaciavale and other parts of town experienced water cuts recently.
“The situation was caused by low pressure in our main system, but we were able to manage. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when the energy supplier implemented its load-shedding.

When there is load-shedding, our reservoirs become completely empty. To fill up a reservoir takes between 24 and 48 hours. The other thing to consider is that the bigger the reservoir, the longer it takes to fill up.”
On a more positive note, he continued that, “The situation is steadily improving now that load-shedding has quietened for the past few days. We will monitor the situation as time goes on to make sure our people get water supply as per the mandate.”
