Residents are not serious about the national lockdown

"Shoppers are not adhering to the rules of social distancing, even though the queues are clearly marked on the floor."

It’s only been a few hours since the national lockdown was implemented, yet many residents of Vryheid are out on the streets and doing their shopping. The Herald spoke to a few store managers, and they all had the same complaint: “Shoppers are not adhering to the rules of social distancing, even though the queues are clearly marked on the floor.” They urged shoppers to adhere to the one-metre social distancing rule, and to only purchase the essentials such as food and medicine. Members of the South African Police Service are visible on the streets, although groups of people were still gathering while out and about doing their shopping, and many cars at full capacity were travelling down the main street. Residents are urged to adhere to the rules of the national lockdown and stay at home to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
