Armed robber killed in shoot-out with police

Police recovered 2 firearms with 3 rounds of ammunition, a toy gun and cash at the scene

Two police officers were on their way to court on Wednesday last week (April 22) when they saw three men wearing reflector jackets pointing firearms at a motorist along Helpmekaar Road in Ezakheni.

When the policemen approached the gunmen, the suspects fled on foot and a chase ensued.

The suspects opened fire on the officers and they retaliated. One of the criminals was fatally wounded in the shoot-out.

The other two suspects were arrested.

It is alleged that, before the shoot-out with police, the suspects flagged down a motorist and proceeded to demand cash from the driver at gunpoint.

Police recovered two firearms with three rounds of ammunition, a toy gun and cash at the scene.
