Lockdown lifesavers give a lifesaving gift

A steady stream of donors walked through the doors to share a life-saving pint

The need for blood does not diminish during national lockdown and blood donors know this.

To show their support, dozens of locals made their way to the Forderville Library projection room last Sunday, where the Estcourt Sai Organisation partnered with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) to host a blood donor clinic.

A steady stream of donors walked through the doors to share a life-saving pint. Altogether, 35 pints of blood were donated.

The SANBS would like to make a public appeal to locals to open up venues for clinics. With schools closed and community halls being used as temporary shelters for homeless people, Khulekani Zuma from the SANBS said that venues for clinics were restricted.

“We appeal to the public, like church groups, to assist with a venue if they are able to,” said Mr Zuma.
