Private sector join hands with local councils to feed the destitute

“We will be communicating with Councillors, traditional leaders and NGO’s in making sure these nutritional packages reach the intended people.”

Private companies in and around Newcastle are heeding the call from the local and district municipalities to contribute to those in need during the country’s lockdown and have to date made considerable donations.

Kunene Makopo Risk Solutions recently delivered Nutriwell Balanced Nutritional Packs to the Newcastle Municipality for distribution to the poor.

Tifo Chabelie, the company’s Business Development Officer said the enterprise was happy to be part of the donations campaign.

“We saw a need to make this kind of donation. To ensure it was done properly, we liaised with the municipality,” he stated.

Chabelie said the packs were extremely nutritious and contained all the necessary ingredients needed to ensure the person receiving it enjoyed a healthy meal.

“The coronavirus pandemic is serious and we can’t be ignorant. We can all play our part by working with Government to ease the burden of feeding so many people who need it the most.”

Sli Kubheka, the Municipal Governance Manager, thanked the company for their donation.

Mlungisi Khumalo, Head of Communications at the municipality, assured the company that the packs will reach those most in need.

“We will be communicating with Councillors, traditional leaders and NGO’s in making sure these nutritional packs reach the right people,” he stated.

Khumalo revealed that a stringent screening process had been implemented to identify those needing assistance the most.

“Some people are well off and we plead to them to help those who are really struggling. This virus needs all of us to work together and support each other,” he concluded.
