Water supply disrupted in Hutten Heights and Barry Hertzog Park

"We are actually in the process of installing a new pipe network from scratch."

Water supply has been disrupted in Hutten Heights and Barry Hertzog Park since yesterday (May 3). The Newcastle Municipality said this was because of a burst pipe they are busy repairing.

Mlungisi Khumalo, Newcastle Municipality Head of Communication said technical teams are working as fast as they can to restore water to the two suburbs but contractors were encountering obstacles.

“The technical team is trying to remove a large tree that fell on the area where the pipe is located,” explained Khumalo.

“It is not the whole area of Barry Hertzorg that doesn’t have water. It’s only certain parts of the suburb. We are actually in the process of installing a new pipe network from scratch,” he revealed.

Water tankers have been dispatched to the affected areas to give residents access to water.
