Level 4 lockdown rules for your domestic worker

Only live-in staff can return to work

You may be wondering if your domestic worker can come back to work during level 4 lockdown, and what the rules and regulations are governing the whole situation…

Government regulations under the Disaster Management Act, 2002, issued in terms of section 27(2), state that:

Under private households employment, only live-in staff and staff providing care to the sick, mentally ill, elderly, people with disabilities and children can return to work during the level 4 coronavirus (Covid-19) lockdown.

What this means is that domestic workers and gardeners who have servants’ quarters at your home may return to work. If they are not live-in, they definitely cannot return to work. It’s as simple as that.
