While awareness of these steps grows, so too does concern around acquiring and being tested for and staying at home.

These were the words uttered by Dr T Zulu, who led the District Command Council (DCC) during a visit at Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality on May 6.

The briefing was conducted in Ward 7 at the Dutch Community Hall before teams were dispatched. The Department of Health, uThukela District Municipality, Ward Cllr Thobelani Mvelase, Civil Society and healthcare workers participated in the screening and testing programme of the day.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Zulu said: “It’s easier when we have a ward councillor in our midst so that when we come across some challenges, as we normally do, then we know that the councillor is on hand to assist. We have a challenge where you find that some households are not welcoming, so we hope your visibility will be our advantage. We thank the foot soldiers who are prepared to discharge their duties diligently. We all have only one purpose: to make sure that our people are safe from this virus.”
There was a concern raised with Cllr Mvelase to do something about people who are still roaming around the streets, not observing the lockdown regulations.
