Maintenance on substations leads to power outages?
Many people were left in the dark, wondering if load-shedding was back in full force again

Confusion reigns supreme after an ‘unauthorised’ message went viral on social media groups, stating that areas in Ladysmith would be without power due to Alfred Duma Local Municipality carrying out maintenance on their substations this week.
Power indeed went out in large areas of town last night (May 27), leaving many residents who had not received the notification on their phones wondering if they had been hit by load-shedding.
According to the message, maintenance was planned for May 26, 27 and 28.
Today (May 28), it says that maintenance is scheduled to be carried out on the Newcastle SH substation from 7pm to 5am and that central town, Helpmekaar Road and The Oval shopping centre may be affected by power outages.

However, when contacting Alfred Duma Local Municipality for clarity regarding the matter, municipal communications manager Siyabonga Maphalala said he was totally unaware of any such message and that it had not been circulated by his office.
This begs the question as to why the lights went off, because the municipality seems to be unaware and just as much in the dark as everyone else.
