Shayamoya identified as epicentre of Covid-19 in Alfred Duma Municipality
It has come to light that residents of the area have been in contact with an infected person

The District Command Council (DCC), led by uThukela Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko and working jointly with the Department of Health, visited Shayamoya yesterday (May 27) to conduct mass community testing for Covid-19.
This after it came to light that residents of the area have come in contact with a person who is allegedly infected with the coronavirus (Covid-19).
According to Dr Zulu from the Department of Health, the main objective of the visit was to carry out targeted screening and testing. Shayamoya has been identified as the epicentre of the Covid-19 pandemic in Alfred Duma Local Municipality due to rising numbers of infections.
“After looking at the concentration of Covid-19 cases, this area has been identified as the epicentre of the pandemic. Someone who is infected has had direct contact with community members,” said Dr Zulu.

According to the DCC, Shayamoya community members responded positively to the programme, which was conducted by National Health Laboratory Services. Some residents even volunteered to be tested for the virus.
