JUST IN: St Dominics Newcastle to close temporarily

The school will communicate with parents about the reopening via the normal communication channels.

Curro Holdings has confirmed the temporary closure of St Dominics Newcastle.

This is despite a teacher, who later tested positive for Covid-19, having been screened prior to the re-opening of schools.

“The decision to temporarily close is as a precautionary measure to protect the safety of all learners and staff at the school, and has been made in compliance with the requirements of the Disaster Management Act and the guidelines of the NICD,” confirmed Mari Lategan, Executive of Marketing and Communications at Curro Holdings.

Lategan said all procedures regarding the deep cleaning and the sanitising of classrooms had been undertaken and urgent consultation has commenced with the Department of Health.

St Dominics has implored its learners and staff to continue to remain sensible and safe during this period and expressed its gratitude towards stakeholders for their commitment and effort over the past few challenging weeks.

“Curro continues to operate within the Department of Basic Education’s Standard Operating Procedures for Independent Schools. Parents will be advised of the reopening of the school via the normal communication channels.”
