Today marks exactly 10 years since the FIFA World Cup kicked off in South Africa.
The tournament kicked off at Soccer City in Johannesburg where host, South Africa took on Mexico. Siphiwe Tshabalala’s opened proceedings with a stunning goal, which will long live in the memory of South African football fans. You can relive that moment below.
Bafana were unfortunately eliminated in the group stages of the tournament. Spain went on to win the trophy, beating Netherlands in the final.

Dundee celebrated the event with an historic Street Party, complete with prizes and a soccer skills competition, hosted by the Courier and The Curry Parlour.
Beaconsfield Street was closed as the town came together as one to mark a memorable occasion.
And the crowd went wild when Siphiwe scored the first goal of the tournament!
