On Monday parents and guardians of Drakensberg Secondary School were informed that a learner from the school had tested positive for Covid-19.

Via a letter, the school’s deputy principal explained that the learner had been self-isolating prior to confirmation of the positive case.

The school has been temporarily closed from July 7 and will reopen on July 13. This is to allow for the disinfecting process to begin.

Education Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi confirmed on Monday afternoon that the department was aware of the school’s closure.

Mr Mahlambi previously warned that there would be a spike in the number of Covid-19 infections at schools, reasoning that most learners are tested at the gates and this is where majority of infections are found.
