Gift of technology for a young commander

"This gift of technology is vitally important to a young woman, given that we live in a technological age which is ever-changing"

The SAPS Women’s Network is close to the heart of the Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Francis Bantham, and the South African Police Service (SAPS) as a whole. Brigadier Bantham is the Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the Women’s Network.

One of the objectives of the SAPS Women’s Network is the upliftment of communities, particularly women and children within the community.

With this value in mind, a partnership was forged between Brigadier Bantham and local companies Sumitomo Rubber and Vodacom SA.

The partnership led to a project wherein a Grade 12 girl, Lwandile Dladla (who hails from a rural community in Cornfields), was the recipient of a new laptop and a year’s supply of data.

Lwandile Dladla has a close working relationship with the SAPS, being the current SAPS Junior National Deputy Commander, as well as the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Provincial Junior Commander.

“The laptop opens new doors for her and allows her the opportunity to flourish in her community. Her experiences and knowledge gained will further assist others in her community as well, spurring others on to achieve their dreams,” said Brigadier Batham.

The laptop, with data, was handed over to Lwandile on June 22 at the Ladysmith SAPS Boardroom. During the handing over, Lwandile was visibly elated and grateful for the gift – a true symbol of light to all youths.

“This gift of technology is vitally important to a young woman, given that we live in a technological age which is ever-changing. The gift will allow her to spread her wings and connect her to knowledge and people around the world, allowing her to stay abreast of what is happening globally,” concluded Brigadier Bantham.
