School feeding scheme benefits Forestdale

The meals provide a balanced diet

Like most schools serving ‘vulnerable communities’, Dundee Junior Secondary School has embarked on a school feeding scheme through the support of the Department of Education.

While schools remain closed for now (Grade 7 classes resumed on Tuesday), the community adjacent to the school in Forestdale is benefiting from the meals prepared and served by staff from outside the school premises.

School Governing Body (SGB) chairperson Gift Gaysman explained that five staff members – called food handlers – had been trained and are being paid by the department to prepare the food.
“A strict menu is followed to ensure that the meals are balanced and nutritious,” Mr Gaysman said.
